Visit Stockholm with dogs

Stockholm is one of Sweden’s most dog-friendly cities, with plenty of parks, cozy dog-welcoming cafés, and scenic walking paths. There are countless spots where both two- and four-legged visitors can feel right at home.

The city offers an abundance of green spaces where you and your dog can stroll, play, or relax. Many hotels, shopping centers, and restaurants are happy to welcome canine companions. A simple way to make your day even smoother is to check in advance whether dogs are allowed – that way, you’ll know you’re welcome wherever you go.

Dogs on public transport

Getting around Stockholm with your dog is easy and convenient! Dogs are welcome free of charge on SL’s buses, metro, commuter trains, and trams. They should sit on the floor or on your lap and are not allowed to occupy a seat. Some vehicles have designated areas for passengers with dogs, so keep an eye out for signs.

Leash rules and keeping the city clean

In Stockholm, it's important to know where and when your dog needs to be on a leash. Within urban areas, parks, and public spaces, dogs must generally be kept on a leash. In nature reserves, leashing is always required, and dogs must be under control to avoid disturbing wildlife. However, there are designated dog parks and dog-friendly beaches where your dog can run freely off-leash.

As a dog owner, you're also responsible for cleaning up after your pet – it helps keep our streets, parks, and nature areas pleasant for everyone. Always carry waste bags with you and dispose of them in the nearest dog waste bin, or in a regular trash bin if none are available.
