The Nordic Kennel Clubs shall, in all parts of their organisations, pursue and reward long term breeding based on the principle that a dog's exterior characteristics must always promote good health, thus ensuring sustainable development over time of our purebred dogs.
The Scientific Committee of the Nordic Kennel Union has drawn up uniform practices regarding the evaluation and transfer of radiograph results between the Nordic countries. These practices are followed by all the kennel clubs in the Nordic Kennel Union.
The sequencing of the dog genome in 2005 marked the start of a rapid development of genetic tests for various conditions in dogs. These tests offer new possibilities, but also new challenges in the breeding of dogs.
In 1986, the Nordic Kennel Union commissioned Australian artists Marian and Margaret Davidson to illustrate all registered dog breeds. Today, the Davidson Collection of drawings consists of more than 2000 illustrations of pedigree dogs.
