The Finnish Hound (Suomenajokoira) is one of the most popular dog breeds in Finland. It is used almost solely to hunt hares or foxes.
The Finnish Lapponian Dog (Suomenlapinkoira) is intelligent, brave, eager to learn, friendly and fairly submissive. Its herding instinct is strong and it displays a clear disposition to guard.
The Finnish Spitz (Suomenpystykorva) primarily barks at birds perched in trees, using its voice to indicate the location of game. It is mostly used to hunt forest game birds, but also to some extent as an elk-hunting dog as well as to hunt small game and retrieve birds shot into the water.
The Karelian Bear Dog (Karjalankarhukoira) is happy to stand guard and it has a very powerful hunting instinct. The breed enjoys its own company and may be slightly sullen. It is alert, unyielding, bold and gutsy. Some individuals are eager to defend their territory and have a strong ego.
The Lapponian Herder (Lapinporokoira) is a friendly, intelligent, energetic and willing to serve. It should not be a companion dog alone, but also requires activity. The breed also adapts well to living outdoors. And reindeer herdsmen have learned to combine the best aspects of the snowmobile and the Lapponian Herder.
