Registration

The Nordic Kennel Union works to harmonise the way dogs are registered in the Nordic countries. Here you can find important NKU decisions aimed to find solutions to issues regarding registration.

Next to each decision is a reference to the meeting minutes from which the information is collected.

2-2002, item 5 The NKU Executive Committee decided that if interbreeding should be made in a breed it should be preceded by an acceptance from the country of origin of that breed.
1-1998, item 11 The NKU Executive Committee decided not to accept the proposal from the Nordic dachshund clubs to forbid interbreeding with different coats (smooth, wire, long).
2-1997, item 7 The NKU Executive Committee decided that all puppies that are born in a recognised combination (litter) should be registered at the same time, despite the colour of the puppies. Each country has the right to decide regarding ban to breed.

  • Recognise new dog breeds

NKU decided in 2018 on new rules for recognition of breeds that are not recognised by the FCI. Breeds can be recognised by any of the NKU-countries and the other countries should be informed at NKU/AU meetings.
