Meet the Swedish dog breeds

Welcome to discover Sweden’s unique canine heritage! Throughout the weekend, you will have the opportunity to meet the Sweden’s national dog breeds, talk to knowledgeable breed representatives, and learn more about their history, characteristics, and traditional working roles.

You will find the Swedish Dog Breeds stand in Hall A, a gathering place where dog lovers, curious visitors, and breed enthusiasts can come together. Get up close to the dogs, ask questions, and discover Sweden’s remarkable canine heritage.

Dogs and breed enthusiasts on site

Several Swedish breeds will be presented throughout the event. For example take the opportunity to get to know:

  • Swedish Lapphund (Svensk lapphund) - Sweden’s oldest native dog breed and an important part of Sami cultural heritage.
  • Swedish Vallhund (Västgötaspets)  - a small but spirited family companion with roots dating back to the Viking Age.
  • Danish-Swedish Farmdog (Dansk-svensk gårdshund) - an energetic and versatile farm dog.
  • Drever - a loyal hunting companion with a big heart and strong working drive.
  • Jämthund (Swedish Elkhound) - a powerful and courageous moose-hunting dog of the Swedish forests.
  • Hamilton Hound (Hamiltonstövare) - an elegant hunting breed named after Count Adolf Patrik Hamilton, founder of the Swedish Kennel Club.

Watch films about the Swedish breeds

Take a seat and see these dogs in their natural element. Throughout the day, films will be shown that offer a vivid glimpse into the breeds’ everyday lives, working abilities, and unique characteristics. These films provide a perfect complement to meeting the dogs in person.

Take home a memory

Fact sheets for each breed will be available in both Swedish and English. Based on information from the Swedish Kennel Club, they offer an accessible introduction to the breeds’ history, characteristics, and traditional uses.

Giveaways and Breed merchandise

Several breed clubs will offer information materials and giveaways for visitors. Some clubs will also bring a limited selection of merchandise from their club shops. It is a wonderful opportunity for both Swedish and international visitors to take home a special memento of their encounter with Sweden’s national dog breeds.

Photo opportunity

Don’t forget to capture the moment! Near the stand, you will find a Swedish-inspired photo area where visitors can take pictures alongside some of Sweden’s beloved dog breeds.

See the dogs in show rings and special Final

The Swedish breeds can also be experienced in the show rings throughout the weekend. We are delighted to see record numbers of entries for several breeds, for example the Swedish Lapphund.

This is a unique opportunity to admire our wonderful blue-and-yellow four-legged friends in competition:

Swedish Winner Show – Friday, 4 September

European Dog Show – Saturday, 5 September

Final Best Swedish breed

During Saturday’s finals, the Swedish breeds will gather in the Main Ring at 4:00 PM (16.00) for the prestigious Best Swedish Breed final.

This is a highlight for anyone interested in Sweden’s dog breeding tradition, canine history, and the exceptional quality of Swedish breeds. Don’t miss the chance to see the very best of Sweden’s national breeds compete for this special title.
